Historical Society Video "Yesterday
on Film" On November 11, 1996 the Point
Pleasant Historical Society premiered the video
"Yesterday on Film". This video, now on DVD, contains rare and
completely restored films shot in the Point Pleasant
area in the 1920s and 30s.
Included are a 1926 promotional film titled "Vacation Time in Beautiful Point Pleasant". Only the second reel of this silent-era two reeler was found and restored by the Society. The first reel is still being sought. Also included in the video is footage of the construction of the Manasquan Inlet in 1931, graphic scenes of the Morro Castle ship disaster in 1934, clips of steam engines in Point Pleasant and at Bay Head Junction during the 1930s, and excerpts from the 1928 silent comedy "Mantoloking Moonshine", filmed on location in Mantoloking. This DVD is available for purchase at the Historical Society Museum in the Point Beach Municipal Building and at various local businesses.
